Sand Lake Recreation Area
Over 1,000 acres of open sand dunes, surrounded by forest and adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, just nine miles north of Pacific City. The dunes are popular with off-road vehicle enthusiasts, with access to the dunes from year-round campgrounds and day-use areas.
Haystack Rock
A 327-foot-tall monolith rests just offshore from Pacific City—the iconic Haystack Rock is the backdrop of the town. Thought to be one of the largest sea stacks in the world, it can be seen from the Cape Kiwanda Natural Area and from other oceanfront spots in Pacific City.
Surfing
ith the perfect alchemical balance of wind speed, duration, the impact of ocean breaks around Haystack Rock and a natural reef, Pacific City creates incredible surfing conditions. Come in September for the Cape Kiwanda Longboard Classic—a two-day competition and celebration of everything on the water.
Horseback Riding
Go for a relaxing horseback ride along the beach, with the sound of the ocean in your ears and the freedom of speed underneath you. Green Acres Beach & Trail Rides offer one- to two-hour rides along the beach—or pony rides for little adventurers.
Hang Gliding
With perfect wind conditions and the dunes of Cape Kiwanda, your next adventure takes you airborne with hang gliding. When the winds begin to blow northwest, the Oregon Hang Gliding School takes to the sand to train students looking to earn their hang gliding certifications.
Fishing
One of the most unique and historic dory fishing fleets in the world launches from the shores of Pacific City, pulling in Chinook and coho salmon, Dungeness crab, albacore tuna and rockfish. Charter services are available to get you out on the water, be it ocean or in the rivers and streams.
Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area
The smallest of the Three Capes Scenic Route, but just as visually stunning and full of adventure. Cape Kiwanda creates perfect conditions for surfing, hang gliding or a hike to the top of the sand dune to take in a fantastic view of the natural beauty.
