You might be surprised to find a hidden camping gem situated in the heart of Lincoln City. It is the only Oregon Coast campground located in the midst of a city, but once you’re there, it doesn’t feel like you're close to one at all. Tall trees and luscious greens surround you, eliminating urban sounds, giving you the feeling you're deep in the woods. Devils Lake State Recreation Area is located right on Devils Lake and is a perfect place to escape without the hassle of driving hours out of town. It’s hard to believe such a large lake can be nestled away in this small coastal town. Outside of a quick view here and there, you might have been too busy exploring the beach to even realize this treasure awaits just to the east. With its calm waters and shelter from coastal winds, Devils Lake provides a cool haven. Whether you are dipping your paddle to kayak across the lake in the misty morning, dropping a fishing line off the dock or just having a picnic to enjoy the views, Devils Lake is a truly unique experience on the Oregon Coast.
Here you can choose between a standard tent campsite, yurt or bring your trailer. This campsite is very homey and a great place to have a family or friend reunion. Sites fill up 6 months in advance sometimes with annual trips and repeat visitors itching to escape to this coastal lake. It’s a perfect place to load up the family with no stress of forgetting something with Lincoln City conveniences so close. This site tends to be very wet, with varying lake heights based on the coastal rain we all know so well, so bring your rain-boots and tarps for your tent. And while the sites aren’t located directly on the lake, there is a paved trail nearby, used only by those in the campground, where a minute walk will take you to views that also make you feel like you aren’t at the coast at all. Not to worry though, D River Wayside, a popular public beach location, is simply a 10-minute walk in the opposite direction, so you can have the best of both worlds. On a summer's day, you’ll find yourself lost in the beauty and no doubt will be ready to book your next stay.
