Celebrate 25 Years of Finders Keepers

Handcrafted glass floats have captured the hearts of visitors for a quarter century.

Lincoln City's iconic Finders Keepers program turns 25 this year! What began as a colorful way to welcome in the new millennium has grown into a beloved tradition and defining part of Lincoln City's identity.

Throughout the 20th century, the Oregon Coast was a hotspot for glass fishing floats. These treasures, carried by ocean currents from Japan and beyond, attracted beachcombers from far and wide. But with the advent of plastic fishing floats in the latter half of the century, the glass ones became increasingly rare. By the late 1990s, finding one was nearly impossible.

A group of local glass artists became nostalgic for the glass fishing floats of yore, and decided to bring the tradition back to life by hiding their handmade glass floats on the beach.

In 2000, Lincoln City took over the program and officially launched "Finders Keepers," transforming it into a year-round tradition that has thrived for 25 years. With a special permit from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, our dedicated "float fairies" carefully hide these glass floats along the beach in Lincoln City almost every day of the year.

Each January, Lincoln City also unveils a new commemorative poster to celebrate the start of another year of the program.

Over the years, thousands of floats have been placed on the beach, each designed and crafted by talented glass artists from different studios throughout the Pacific Northwest. From glow-in-the-dark designs and intricate bubble patterns to metallic finishes and festive holiday themes, every float is a unique work of art.

This year, Lincoln City is thrilled to honor the 25th anniversary of this tradition. Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store:

In-Person Events

Get ready for a series of fun in-person events! Meet some of the glass artists who design the floats, sample the exclusive Finders Keepers IPA beer (for those 21+), receive a complimentary commemorative glass coin and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

The first event of the year kicks off during Spring Break in late March 2025. Stay tuned for the exact date and time.

25 Years of Finders Keepers Exhibit

Special Teal and Orange Metallic Floats

To celebrate 25 years, 25 extra glass floats will be hidden on the beach each month in 2025, with orange, teal and metallic designs. These floats will be dropped randomly throughout the month, in addition to our regular and special float drops.

Commemorative Glass Coins

This year, anyone who finds and registers a Finders Keepers float will be eligible to receive a commemorative glass coin. Upon registering a float, the coin will be mailed to the address provided during registration.

These special coins will also be distributed at in-person events and activations throughout the year.
