Cache the Coast
Geocaching is the modern day treasure hunters dream. To the explorers, this is for you.
For those who enjoyed spending their time searching for glass floats on the beach, there is another treasure hunt that could be for you. Geocaching is an explorers dream…you simply download the geocaching app on your smartphone and hit the trails in search of caches that are full of different treasures. Caches can be of all sizes and range from a simple logbook, personal souvenirs, and even a promotional coupon from sponsors. A rule of the game is that if you take something from the cache, you leave something behind for the next person.
Now through November, this high-tech treasure hunting is here on the central Oregon Coast with a new geocaching challenge – Cache the Coast.
Cache the Coast features caches that can be found at 20 of the most beautiful spots from Newport to Garibaldi. This is the second in a series of three coastal GeoTours developed by Oregon Coast TODAY and EO Media Group. You might pass caches on your daily walk, favorite hike, or a spot you’ve always wanted to explore.
The GPS on your phone helps guide you to the area where it is hidden, varying in difficulty, and then it's up to you. It is challenging but equally rewarding when you finally find it. You are able to experience new places like a local and it is fun for the whole family. Best of all, it gets you outside.
Anyone who finds all 20 caches and turns in a completed Cache the Coast Passport by Saturday, November 21, 2020 will be entered into a drawing for prizes, including a two-night stay at Salishan Resort.
